The Yorkshire Auditory Implant Service thoroughly assesses each adult referred to determine whether they would be a suitable candidate for a cochlear implant. The length of the assessment varies depending on each individual. During the course of the assessment adults meet the ENT Consultant, Speech and Language Therapist, Audiologist and Head of Service. This section describes each stage of the assessment procedure shown in the diagram to the left.
We accept direct referrals from all health professionals including hearing aid dispensers and audiologists who work in the private sector. An audiological history of the patient would be required to assist with the assessment process.
If you have been referred for a Cochlear Implant you will be assessed by a specialist multidisciplinary team. Usually this would include:
- Consultant
- Audiologist
- Speech and Language Therapist
There is criteria for each area of the assessment, and the results of each appointment will be discussed within the team. We want to make sure the best decision is made for each person that comes into our service.
